The test fixture is our 24” LED Strip Kit custom assembled for Corbins Pet Store in Buffalo Grove Illinois.

The Heatsink is a 24” x 8.46” from HeatsinkUSA. The Cree LED strips are 6 XR-E Royal Blue/White and 4 XRE Royal Blue. The drivers are MeanWell 60-48D. The four Royal Blue strips are driven at full power (at 9 volts appx 580mA) in 2 parallel series of 12 LEDs. The other Royal Blue/White Strips are driven by a single MeanWell 60-48D adjusted to 750mA at 9Vdc

The drivers were adjusted and the input voltage was provided by a Radio Shack Enercell. Par was measured 24” above the fixture center mass and 24” centered but 12 “ to the side. The meter was an Quantum Flux Apogee meter MQ-200. Watts were measured with the common KillaWatt meter.

I was very surprised about the 70 degree optics performance. I did all measurements twice recording the highest average reading. In addition I did the 70 several times over and got the same reading. Shooting from the hip and using PDF performance data would give you a lower PAR. Personally I was surprised by the PAR improvement using these optic

While using the headunit to program the ALC Dim settings you will notice the first option is to set the “White Intentisity”
do not think of it as “white” or blue, but rather, “A Intensity”
Then set the Ramp time,
The next option is “blue intesnity” IgNORE this. Since one set of cables can only control one set of Drivers.

 

How to Adjust Your ELN-60-48 Driver

[color_box title=”Adjusting the Output of the Mean Well Driver”]The CREE XR-E series of LEDs is rated for 1000mA max. By simply connecting our dimmable drivers to only 12 LEDs in series will overdrive them by 30% or more.

The Mean Well ELN 60-48 series of drivers have an internal rheostat or pot that you can turn counter clockwise to lower the output current.[/color_box]

You will need a standard Phillips screwdriver and a volt ohm meter. Simply start by unscrewing the four housing screws and remove the waterproof cover. Then turn the rheostat in the lower left corner full counter clockwise. This is the drivers lowest setting.

[warning_box]CAUTION: ALWAYS ENSURE YOUR DRIVER IS UNPLUGGED WHEN CONNECTING WIRES![/warning_box]

Once you have it powered up and you are showing a reading, slowly turn the rheostat clockwise till you have approximately 700-800mA. This is our recommended max setting as it allows for a buffer and driving your LEDs harder will lower their life span and not give you that much more light.
